A serious accident occurred overnight in Germany when a double-decker Flixbus carrying 56 people overturned.
This was reported by the police of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where the incident took place.
The bus rolled over on the BAB19 highway around 02:40 AM. It was en route from Copenhagen to Vienna, with 54 passengers and two drivers on board.
"Of the 56 individuals involved in the bus accident, 25 sustained minor injuries, while six suffered serious injuries," the press release states.
The injured were transported to nearby hospitals for medical assistance. One man with severe injuries was airlifted to Berlin by a rescue helicopter.
According to the police, the passengers represented 23 different nationalities, including Germans, Ukrainians, Swedes, Danes, Slovaks, Hungarians, Poles, French, Italians, Syrians, Chinese, Australians, Indians, Canadians, Japanese, Somalis, and others.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined, and an investigation is ongoing. Translators have been involved in the investigation process.
The BAB19 highway was fully closed for over 10 hours due to rescue and cleanup operations. The estimated damage to property is around 500,000 euros.
