In Hnivan, Vinnytsia region, a tragic incident occurred when a 13-year-old boy suffered an electric shock after climbing onto the roof of a freight train and grabbing a high-voltage line.
The teen was urgently hospitalized in critical condition, as reported by the regional branch of the National Police and the State Emergency Service.
Witnesses stated that the incident happened on the evening of June 21, when the boy climbed onto a stationary freight wagon. He touched the high-voltage line, resulting in the electric shock.
Rescue services were alerted by a local railway station worker. By the time they arrived, the child was lying on the ground between the tracks.
"Rescuers, along with police, extracted the teenager and handed him over to the emergency medical team," the emergency services added.
The injured boy was treated at the Thermal Injury and Plastic Surgery Center of the regional hospital.
A police investigative team is currently working at the scene.
"We urge parents to explain to their children that the railway is not a place for play. The overhead lines are under high voltage and can be deadly even without direct contact," the State Emergency Service warned.
