The simplified export conditions for Ukrainian products to European Union countries will end on June 5, 2023. After this date, Ukrainian exporters will once again face the previous trade regulations that were in place before the full-scale war with Russia.
This announcement was made by Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk, according to the Polish news outlet RMF24.
End of the “Trade Visa-Free” with the EU: Key Aspects
Donald Tusk emphasized that the Polish government intends to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russia, but this should not come at the expense of Polish producers, especially farmers.
“We have achieved a result - from June 5, this simplified mechanism will be abolished. We are returning to the pre-war rules at the border” - stated the Polish politician.
He also noted that his government will protect Polish economic interests, even if it leads to a conflict with Ukrainian interests.
The Government Aims to Discuss with the EU the Continuation of the “Trade Visa-Free” for Ukraine
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine hopes to negotiate with the European Commission for the establishment of autonomous trade rules for Ukraine until June 5, 2025. This liberalization regime for trade with the EU is in effect until that date.
The European Union is preparing to implement significantly higher tariffs on Ukrainian imports in the coming weeks, which could severely impact Kyiv's economy at a crucial moment in its fight against Russian aggression.
Previously, Ukraine and the European Union agreed to extend the liberalization agreement for freight transport until the end of 2025.
Thanks to this agreement, Ukrainian exports by road to EU countries increased by 42%, and imports by the same mode of transport rose by 37%.
