In Spain, local authorities have detained Oleg Gladkovsky, the former first deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
Gladkovsky's Arrest: What Happened?
He is accused of causing damages to the state amounting to 17.44 million hryvnias in a case investigated by the SAP and NABU.
During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the former high-ranking official abused his position and acted contrary to the interests of the service.
His actions aimed to gain illegal profits for a company where he and his relatives held stakes, namely PJSC "Automobile Company 'Bogdan Motors'".
In October 2019, he was informed of suspicion of committing a crime under part two of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
On May 13, 2024, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) issued a decision to arrest Gladkovsky in absentia.
Key Points of the Gladkovsky Case
On October 19, 2019, HACC arrested Gladkovsky with an alternative of a 10.6 million hryvnias bail, which was posted on October 21, 2019.
In March 2022, the court confiscated the bail for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and changed the preventive measure to personal commitment. After that, Gladkovsky stopped appearing at court hearings, and according to NABU and SAP, he left the country, prompting a search announcement.
In April 2024, HACC issued a search warrant for the former NSDC deputy secretary, who, together with a former deputy defense minister and a department director from the Ministry of Defense, is suspected of causing damages to the state totaling 17.44 million hryvnias.
“The court took into account the absence of the accused at hearings and confirmed information about his presence abroad and granted the request,” noted SAP.
The ex-official used his power and position against the interests of the service to gain undue advantage for a company in which he and his relatives held ownership, specifically PJSC "Automobile Company 'Bogdan Motors'".
He organized procurement for military contracts for off-road vehicles at unlawfully inflated prices.
