In Kyiv, a new initiative is being launched – the registration of pets at the Centers for Administrative Services.
Dog registration is mandatory, whereas cat registration is voluntary, as reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.
The service will be available starting May 12 in all administrative service centers across the city.
"This is primarily a safety issue, as having registration details significantly increases the chances of a quick return home if a pet escapes."
Up-to-date information on the number of pets in the city will also enable better planning of urban infrastructure and ensure compliance with veterinary standards,” stated the director of the Kyiv City Veterinary Medicine Hospital, Serhiy Saburov.
To register a pet, the owner only needs to submit a completed form No. 1, available directly at the service center, along with a payment receipt.
After registration, the pet is assigned a unique number, and the owner receives a registration certificate that confirms their ownership of the pet.
It is worth noting that on November 25, 2024, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, together with the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Digital Transformation, launched the Unified State Register of Pets.
This new national database is meant for the accounting of cats, dogs, and even ferrets. The register aims to assist in combating dangerous diseases, including rabies, and to foster a culture of responsible pet ownership.
