The Ministry of Community Development and Territories of Ukraine has introduced a new order for the use of smart tachographs, which provide automatic monitoring of commercial vehicle drivers' working hours while recording their speed and stopping points.
This was announced by Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach.
“Smart tachographs: another step towards aligning with European standards in transportation. The new mechanism for utilizing smart tachographs has been officially approved. Order No. 532 has already been registered with the Ministry of Justice,” Derkach stated.
According to him, the order will take effect on May 27 following its official publication.
Ukrainian carriers have long been purchasing modern equipment with built-in smart tachographs, but obtaining cards or servicing them within Ukraine has been impossible.
The new regulations include approved card samples for smart tachographs, the ability to submit applications online instead of only in person or by mail as before, and procedures for technical maintenance and installation of devices.
Among the significant changes is that there will no longer be a requirement to carry a calibration protocol for the tachograph aboard the vehicle, greatly simplifying the work for carriers and drivers.
Derkach noted that cards for tachographs will be available for order after the completion of technical procedures by the EU.
