Today, November 21, the first meeting of the Public Health Coordination Council took place in Kyiv, established to implement programs aimed at enhancing the public health system in the capital. This council was created under the Order of the KMDA No. 985 by the Department of Health.

During the meeting, a draft Strategy was approved, aiming at reducing tobacco consumption and its harmful effects on the health of Kyiv residents from 2025 to 2030. This document was jointly developed by the "Kyiv City Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine", the Main Department of the State Consumer Services in Kyiv, and the Department of Health of the KMDA. This was announced by Valentina Ginzburg, the head of the Department of Health of the KMDA.

"Smoking poses a significant threat to the public health of Kyiv residents. According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, smoking is the primary cause of over 60% of all cardiovascular diseases and about 15% of lung cancer deaths in the country," emphasized Valentina Ginzburg.

She noted that the main goal of the Strategy is to reduce smoking rates among adults and children by 30% by 2030 and to create a "smoke-free" environment, particularly in public spaces.

To achieve this, it is planned to involve territorial state authorities, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, research organizations, and public organizations. This decision was made at the meeting of the Coordination Council.

In addition to approving the Strategy, the meeting also addressed the state of immunization in Kyiv and the issues of diagnosis, prevention, and eradication of zoonotic diseases, including rabies.
