In the fight for human lives, nothing could stop them – only the stopping of their hearts.
This was reported by the Ministry of Health.
On July 10, Ukraine commemorates the first Memorial Day for Fallen Healthcare Workers. This initiative was launched by the team of the «Order of Saint Panteleimon» to honor the memory of medical professionals who died during the full-scale war.
Healthcare workers on the front lines and in the frontline territories risked their lives to save our soldiers under fire. Those in the rear worked through alarms, in operating rooms without power, and in bomb shelters. They fought day and night for the lives of both children and adults in Ukraine, but sadly many of them lost their own lives. The number of such healthcare workers is in the hundreds.
According to the Order of Saint Panteleimon, over three years of the large-scale war, Russia has killed at least five hundred Ukrainian healthcare workers. These include doctors, nurses, junior medical staff, and combat medics. They became targets of the enemy on the battlefield, in stabilization points, in operating rooms and offices, on the streets, at home, and on their way to work.
To preserve the memory of each fallen healthcare worker, the Order of Saint Panteleimon is implementing the «Light of Memory» project aimed at honoring those who gave their lives while fulfilling their professional duties. As part of this project, in collaboration with the National Scientific Medical Library of Ukraine and regional partners, information about the fallen medical workers is being collected and systematized.
If you know of a fallen healthcare worker on the front lines or in the rear, in a civilian or military hospital, please send information to the email address: medlib@library.gov.ua
Be sure to specify in the subject line: «Light of Memory».
Today, July 10, at 14:00, hospitals and medical institutions across Ukraine will sound a signal – the sound of a stopping heart. Following this, there will be a minute of silence. This is a sign of gratitude, respect, and mourning for the fallen healthcare workers.
Let us remember. Let us give thanks. Let us honor.
Eternal and bright memory to the fallen healthcare workers.
