The arrested individual was acting on behalf of the Federal Security Service of Russia.
According to the investigation, he received coordinates for a weapons cache and acquired materials needed to create an explosive device.
The enemy aimed to use the explosion in a crowded area to incite panic among the local population.
SBU agents timely uncovered the criminal intentions and apprehended the agent at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the detainee is a 62-year-old local resident who was recruited through his wife living in Moscow.
After setting the explosive, he planned to execute another task involving the creation of a homemade explosive device.
During searches of his residence, devices for remote detonation and other evidence of his contacts with the enemy were found.
The SBU filed charges against him for treason and preparation for a terrorist act. He is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment.
