The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, has uncovered an attempt by spies to infiltrate a major defense facility in the southern region of the country.
As a result of a special operation in Mykolaiv, an agent was arrested while trying to gather intelligence for the Russian military regarding the location of the defense factory.
The investigation revealed that the woman had involved her partner, an employee at the facility, in her activities.
Initially, she was recruited by the enemy. Aware that her company was collaborating with the defense factory, the Russians tasked her with gathering information about military-industrial objects and their orders in the region.
To do this, she exploited her partner, who worked in the supply department of the factory.
The SBU detected this espionage duo at the early stages of their collaboration.
It was established that the man provided the woman with information about the status of state orders and the locations of production workshops.
However, the agent did not have the chance to report back to the occupiers as she was apprehended at this stage.
During a search, a smartphone containing evidence of her contacts with a Russian handler, Sergey Lebedev, known by the alias "Lohmaty," who works for the FSB in Donetsk, was seized.
SBU investigators have charged the agents according to two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 2 of Article 111 (treason committed in a state of war);
- Part 1 of Article 114-2 (unauthorized dissemination of information about the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a state of war).
The perpetrator is currently in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation. The decision regarding a preventive measure for her accomplice is being resolved. The special operation was conducted by SBU employees in the Mykolaiv region under the procedural guidance of the specialized military prosecutor's office.
