A perpetrator promised individuals subject to military service a job at a company authorized to provide deferments. It has been established that he acted as a mediator in a corruption scheme, and further participants are currently being identified. This illegal activity could lead to a ten-year prison sentence.
The corruption scheme was documented by investigators from the Kyiv Police Department in collaboration with the city’s UCR staff and under the supervision of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Defense Sector of the Central Region.
According to the investigation, an employee from the Ministry of Defense offered conscripts a job at a company authorized to provide deferments for a monetary reward of $10,000.
The suspect was apprehended under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving the aforementioned amount from the “client”.
The perpetrator has been charged under Part 5 of Article 27 and Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – aiding in the receipt of unlawful benefits by a public official. This act was committed in conspiracy with a group of individuals and involved extortion.
The court has chosen to detain the suspect until trial. He faces up to ten years in prison with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years, along with asset confiscation.
