A man was arrested in Kyiv for extorting money while threatening to spread negative information about the victim's business. Law enforcement documented the extortion and apprehended the perpetrator, who faces up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.
The crime was uncovered through the efforts of investigators from the Solomyansky Police Department and the prosecution.
"The suspect, not knowing the victim, threatened him with physical harm and the dissemination of negative information on social media. He demanded $30,000, threatening with a weapon if the victim refused," said investigator Maria Martymyanova.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He has now been charged with extortion combined with threats to kill under martial law conditions. The court has placed him in pre-trial detention. The penalty can reach up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.
