The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended another Russian agent in the Kharkiv region. The detainee is a 48-year-old engineer working for a local branch of Ukrzaliznytsia. According to the investigation, he was gathering intelligence for the FSB by monitoring the movement of military trains.
While repairing railway tracks in the border area, the operative covertly observed the movements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The enemy was particularly interested in the number, routes, and types of weaponry heading to the front lines.
Additionally, during work trips, the agent documented the locations of defensive lines and other sites of Ukrainian troops on Google Maps.
The gathered information was sent via messenger to his supervisors, whose identities have already been established by the SBU.
According to available data, the occupiers planned to use the intelligence for preparing new bombing and drone strikes on the Kharkiv border.
SBU employees documented the crimes of the detainee and made a move during the initial phase of his espionage activities.
The investigation revealed that the railway worker caught the attention of Russian intelligence when he published anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.
During searches at the suspect's residence, a smartphone with an anonymous chat used for communication with the FSB was seized.
The Security Service has informed the agent of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed in a state of war).
The perpetrator is currently in custody without the right to bail and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
The operations were conducted by SBU employees in the Kharkiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
