The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have uncovered 5 new schemes that enabled draft evasion in central, southern, and western regions. As a result of comprehensive measures, individuals involved in document forgery for evaders or those facilitating their illegal transportation abroad were detained.
In Cherkasy, a 48-year-old deputy dean of a local university was detained for accepting bribes to enroll evaders in his institution. As part of the admissions committee, he unfairly assigned clients 'passing' scores, allowing them to receive deferrals from military service.
In the Zolotonosha district, another suspect, a 33-year-old local resident, is already under investigation for similar offenses. While under house arrest, he continued to sell fake medical certificates of disability, enlisting the help of acquaintances among doctors to produce the forgeries.
In Mykolaiv, a resident of Odesa was detained while transporting conscripts to the southwestern border, offering them a 'transfer' in the cargo area of a truck that was exporting food products.
In Poltava, a 56-year-old man was caught producing fake 'exemption' certificates in his printing house. Additionally, a 44-year-old unemployed individual was arrested for leaking the geolocations of military recruitment centers and the National Police in Telegram channels.
In Lviv, a dealer was apprehended for selling a 'safe' route for fleeing abroad through one of the checkpoints. The criminal also promised to remove clients from being wanted by military recruitment centers.
All suspects have been charged under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 3 of Article 332 (illegal transportation of persons across the state border);
- Part 1 of Article 114-1 (obstruction of lawful activities of the Armed Forces and other military formations during a special period);
- Part 3 of Article 369-2 (abuse of influence).
The criminals are currently in custody and face up to 9 years in prison with asset confiscation. These operations were conducted by SBU officers in Cherkasy, Mykolaiv, Poltava, and Lviv regions in collaboration with the National Police under the procedural guidance of regional prosecutors.
