Investigators from the Kyiv police have submitted an indictment to the court against a 38-year-old man who, while driving under the influence, exceeded the speed limit and caused an accident that resulted in one death and two serious injuries.
The incident occurred in March of this year on Naberezhne Shose, in the tunnel between Poshtova Square and the Kyiv River Port. The driver of the Infinity, traveling at approximately 170 km/h, collided with a Volkswagen vehicle and then, in an uncontrolled state, struck a KIA car.
As a result of the crash, the 35-year-old Volkswagen driver died at the scene, while his passenger sustained severe injuries. The passenger in the Infinity also suffered moderate injuries.
The perpetrator was detained at the scene in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol — a breathalyzer indicated 1.10 promille.
Currently, the investigators have sent the indictment to the Podil District Court of the capital. The actions of the suspect have been classified under part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules by a person in a state of intoxication, resulting in the death of the victim.
The penalty for this article provides for up to ten years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for the same period.
