A perpetrator attempted to break into a bank late at night where payment terminals are located, using pre-prepared tools to damage an ATM that contained over 15,000 hryvnias. However, he was stopped from stealing the money by law enforcement who quickly arrived at the scene.
The police received a call on the emergency line 102 from a security guard about an unknown man who had entered the bank on Vyshgorodska Street and was trying to steal money. An investigative team and criminal police officers arrived at the site.
Authorities established that the man had prepared for the theft: he had specialized tools with him. That evening he entered the bank and attempted to open the banking terminal with a metal screwdriver, trying to steal over 15,000 hryvnias.
Investigators detained the man under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged him under part 3 of Article 15 and part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – attempted theft combined with breaking and entering during martial law. The penalty for this article carries a sentence of up to eight years in prison.
The court determined that the suspect would be held in custody with the possibility of posting bail amounting to 90,840 hryvnias.
