A surgeon from a private clinic in Kyiv has been charged after performing breast augmentation on a patient with an existing cancer diagnosis. The doctor ignored examination results indicating the presence of a tumor and failed to refer the patient for additional diagnostics.
Last September, a woman sought the medical center for breast correction surgery.
During her preparation for the procedure, signs of a tumor were discovered, yet the 30-year-old surgeon did not send her for an oncology consultation and proceeded with the surgery despite the risks involved.
This action resulted in the spread of a malignant tumor and a significant deterioration in the patient's health.
When the surgeon realized he could face criminal charges, he attempted to mislead investigators by claiming he was receiving treatment in another region.
Investigators, under the guidance of the Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv, have charged the man under Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for improper performance of professional duties, resulting in severe consequences. The penalty for this charge can be up to two years of imprisonment.
