Counterintelligence officers from the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have arrested a Russian agent who carried out a terrorist act against defenders of Kharkiv on June 20 this year.

On that day, Russian special services activated an improvised explosive device hidden in the trunk of a scooter while two military personnel were nearby.

The explosion occurred near a café in Kharkiv, where the enemy lured the soldiers under the pretense of delivering a ‘volunteer’ scooter.

According to the investigation, the aggressor recruited a 19-year-old Kharkiv resident found on Telegram job search channels for the crime.

After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from her handler on how to create the explosive device at home. She then purchased household chemicals, a battery, wires, and two phones for remote detonation.

She brought the finished bomb to the scooter parking location and hid it in the trunk.

Using a camera disguised at the planned attack site, Russian special services tracked the arrival of the military at the location.

After the crime, the terrorist attempted to go into hiding, but was arrested by law enforcement just a few hours after the explosion.

During the search, unused components of the explosive device and a phone with evidence of working for the enemy were confiscated from her.

Currently, SBU investigators have informed the detained individual of suspicion under part 3 of article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act leading to loss of life).

The offender is in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.

Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU employees in the Kharkiv region in collaboration with the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
