The Culture, Tourism, and Public Communications Committee of the Kyiv City Council has approved the report from the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration regarding the implementation of the city target program «Capital Culture: 2022–2024» based on the results of 2024, including the performance of public libraries in the capital.
As stated by Kyiv City Council member Victoria Mukha, libraries remain an essential part of the city's cultural landscape, adapting to new challenges and community needs.
«Today, libraries are not just about books; they are spaces for communication, education, and development. They evolve alongside society, becoming more open and modern public spaces. And the numbers confirm this. Over the past year, the library funds in the capital have increased by more than 75,000 new copies, and the number of visits exceeded 570,000,» emphasized Victoria Mukha.
The council member noted that the space of libraries is expanding from reading rooms to multimedia and educational hubs.
«In 2024, 17,460 events took place in Kyiv's libraries, gathering over 410,000 participants. Additionally, more than 80 courses and clubs for learning the Ukrainian language were active in 68 libraries. This indicates the demand for new formats and confirms that libraries are becoming true centers of community interaction,» added Victoria Mukha.
