Today, at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, an important event took place as part of the «16 Days Against Violence» campaign titled «Opening the Truth About Violence». The event aimed to raise public awareness about this serious issue and to mobilize efforts in the fight against it.
As reported by the organizers, students, faculty, representatives of non-governmental organizations, law enforcement, lawmakers, and experts participated in the event. The moderator was Alla Shlapak, a member of the Kyiv City Council and the university's vice-rector.
«Our university actively supports initiatives aimed at combating violence. We have crisis services, psychological support, and open channels for inquiries from students and lecturers. We always respond to such challenges», – noted acting rector Oleksandr Turuntsev.
To draw attention to the issue of violence, the NGO «Women’s Political Action» presented an installation symbolizing the desire for open discussions about violence in society, particularly domestic and gender-based violence.
During the event, the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in Ukraine, which addresses the prevention of violence against women, was also discussed. Participants emphasized the need to not only respond to instances of violence but also actively work on prevention. Kyiv is also focusing efforts on protecting victims and creating conditions for their rehabilitation, providing psychological and legal support.
University students will also participate in a survey to assess their awareness and attitudes towards the issue of violence.
