Historian Sergii Plokhii has officially resigned from his position as the director of the Ukrainian Scientific Institute at Harvard University, where he has served for the past twelve years.
This announcement was shared on the institution's social media platforms.
"It has been an honor and privilege to lead the Institute during this period. These years have been marked by the challenges of war, as well as opportunities to promote knowledge about Ukraine and the surrounding region," he stated in his farewell message.
Plokhii expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for their collaborative efforts in addressing existing issues and developing new projects.
His position will be taken over by Professor Terry Martin, an expert in Russian studies.
In 2007, Plokhii became the head of the Hrushevsky Chair of Ukrainian History and has served as the director of the Ukrainian Institute since 2013.
He participated in translating Mikhail Hrushevsky's "History of Ukraine-Rus" into English and co-authored the first textbook on Ukrainian churches, along with several works on religious and cultural history.
His book, "The Russo-Ukrainian War: The Return of History," was recognized as one of the best by The Telegraph.
Recently, Sergii Plokhii was awarded the title of honorary doctor by the University of Oxford.
