A court in the Ukrainian capital has concluded the case of a driver who, while intoxicated, hit a 14-year-old girl at a pedestrian crossing and left her without assistance.
The 33-year-old man was sentenced to 4 years in prison and banned from driving for 5 years.
This was reported by representatives of the Kyiv city prosecutor's office.
The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, on Dashkevicha Street when the driver of a Seat Toledo hit the girl, who was crossing with a green traffic light.
After the collision, the driver fled the scene, leaving the injured child without help. Witnesses immediately alerted the police and called for an ambulance.
As a result of the accident, the girl sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalized at the "Okhmatdyt" hospital.
According to Kyiv city prosecutor's spokesperson Iryna Vynokurova, the driver was found shortly after, living nearby. A breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol level of 2.3 per mille.
"Since the suspect had a criminal record for intentional bodily harm, prosecutors sought to have him detained," she stated.
In court, the man admitted his guilt but did not compensate the injured girl for her damages.
As a result, he was found guilty on multiple counts and sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment, along with a 5-year driving ban. This is the harshest penalty provided by the articles under which he was charged.
Earlier, we reported that a vehicle in a pedestrian zone in Kyiv had hit four people, resulting in injuries.
