Starting November 11th, a new experiment will take place at the intersection of Volodymyrska Street and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard in Kyiv, featuring a new type of traffic signal known as the "Greek Cross". This was announced by the Center for Traffic Organization.
"The experiment is part of the Road Safety Week and aims to improve safety during left turns. This is the first such initiative in Ukraine, inspired by European practices," the organization stated.
An additional section with a red signal in the shape of an equilateral cross will be added to the traffic signal. When illuminated, this signal indicates that oncoming traffic is halted, allowing drivers to safely make left turns, as explained by the CTO.
Thus, the "Greek Cross" signal does not prohibit passage but rather confirms the possibility of maneuvering, since the oncoming flow is currently stopped.
"The experiment will last for two months. During this time, specialists will collect and analyze data regarding the effectiveness of the new system," the announcement stated.
