In Kyiv, at the Partisan Glory Park, a groundbreaking ecological initiative is underway, inspired by the method of Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki.
This technique is recognized as one of the most effective methods for reforesting degraded lands, mimicking natural forest formation processes, which leads to rapid tree growth and significant carbon absorption. This information was shared by the Darniцьka District Administration.
The core principle of the Miyawaki method is to utilize tree species that would naturally thrive in the area, creating a diverse and multi-layered green environment. This approach fosters a resilient ecosystem where plants support each other.
As a result, a forest can develop within 20-30 years instead of the usual 150, making this method particularly valuable for contemporary reforestation programs.
Kyivzelenbud plans to establish such Miyawaki gardens in every district of the city, following an initiative proposed this year by the Department of Environmental Protection of the Kyiv City State Administration.
