Approximately a third of public transport drivers have undergone new training focused on enhancing the quality of passenger transport services for individuals with disabilities. This was reported by KP 'Kyivpastrans'.

During the training sessions, drivers enhance their understanding of accessibility principles, improve their communication skills with passengers, and practice safe boarding and disembarking procedures for individuals using wheelchairs or other assistive devices.

“Our drivers are experienced professionals, but considering the complex conditions of today, it is crucial to continuously upgrade their skills and learn new approaches to accessibility. This will help them better understand the needs of individuals with disabilities and provide comfortable transport conditions for everyone,” said Tatiana Tarasko, acting director of KP 'Kyivpastrans'.

The training is conducted in collaboration with the NGO 'Active Rehabilitation Group' in the format of lectures and practical sessions that simulate real situations on routes.

“Practical experience is an important component of our training. During classes, drivers practice action algorithms in situations that commonly occur on routes. This not only reinforces basic knowledge but also teaches them to respond effectively to various passenger requests. I am confident that after the completion of the training, the quality of services for individuals using assistive devices will significantly improve,” noted Alexey Porokh, an instructor from 'Active Rehabilitation Group'.

Classes are held daily, except for weekends, gradually involving all drivers of the company. The series of training sessions was initiated by Ulyana Pcholkin — deputy head of the board of the 'Active Rehabilitation Group', deputy head of the Accessibility Council in Kyiv, and an expert on inclusion issues.
