Yesterday, July 5th, a modern space for sport and physical activity was inaugurated in Kyiv's Kontraktova Square.

This location is part of the global initiative «Healthy City Life», which Kyiv joined in 2021 with the support of the Danish Embassy and «Novo Nordisk».

Valentyn Mondryivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, emphasized that transforming Kontraktova Square into a dynamic space will help engage the community in healthy living.

«This project showcases how quickly and effectively a urban space can be created to promote physical activity without heavy investment in infrastructure,» he added.

The project is planned for 18 months, after which its elements can be adapted or changed.

The «Healthy City Life» initiative aims to support an active lifestyle and prevent diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity.

In 2024, the initiative will expand to include urban elements, creating safe and comfortable areas for physical activity.

This project has been recognized in the Ukrainian Record Book as the largest temporary urban space for physical activities, covering an area of 6321 square meters.

Key partners include the Danish Embassy in Ukraine, the city of Copenhagen, NGO «Ukraine Active», as well as companies «Carlsberg» and «JYSK».

Present at the opening were city officials, the Danish Deputy Ambassador Lars Olaf Søvndahl Petersen, project leader and renowned Danish urban architect Mikael Colville-Andersen, and CEO of «Novo Nordisk Ukraine» Vladyslav Moroz.

Future plans include involving business representatives from other countries in the initiative. The new space was made possible through the sponsorship of «Novo Nordisk Ukraine», which invested 6 million UAH in its development.

This newly created space aims to be another step towards a city conducive to active and healthy living, and it is already accessible to all.
